Ross Windfeldt has confirmed that St. Cloud Tech offensive guard Ross Windfeldt gave UND a verbal commitment over the weekend.  The 6-5 315 pounder is the 4th addition to the 2011 offensive line class that already includes Red River’s Jace Hellman (6-3 250), Sartell’s Brandon Anderson (6-5 290) and Wilmot, WI Sean Meehan (6-6 290).

We had a chance to talk with Tech Head Coach Gregg Martig who said Windfeldt has a great work ethic in the weight room and classroom and that his final choices came down to offers from UND and NDSU, with UM-Duluth and St. John’s also in the mix.  He said he thought Ross did a great job of not making a rushed decision and really looked at all aspects of the schools and the football programs to figure out the best fit for him.  Minnesota, Wisconsin (twice) and Nebraska were also in the school last spring to recruit him.  He ended up taking gameday unofficial visits to all 3 as well according to Martig, but no scholarship offers were ever made.

Ironically, Sartell’s Brandon Anderson and Windfeldt are good friends off the field even though they were rivals on it.  Both attended camps together at Minnesota and Wisconsin and were roommates.  Coach Martig said that may have played into his decision as well.

Windfeldt also throws shotput and discus in the spring during track season.  We think he projects as a guard at UND, however his size could lend itself to move outside to tackle if need be.

With all of the FBS schools that had visited and recruited Windfeldt, you have to believe the ceiling for this kid will be high at the FCS level.  While no offers were ever made and it was probably minimal, his rivals page of interested schools is impressive.

Have you guys heard whether anybody is visiting this weekend? Scout lists OLB Dennis Taylor from California as supposedly visiting, but I suspect that depends upon whether UND is already full at LB.

    1. We haven’t seen any official names other than Taylor. Could be another small weekend. One position that hasn’t been recruited much in this class is defensive back. We are hoping to hear more about the DB’s along with linebackers.

      1. According to, Antoine Pickett is going to take a visit to Sacramento State this weekend and then decide. Looks like it is down to UND and Sac State. Being he is from the Bay area the distance worries us. Hopefully he enjoyed his visit.

          1. Thanks for the update.

We are working to see if there are any other DB’s being recruited by UND. With Pickett going to Sac St they should be trying to bring in somebody else.

        1. That is news to us. Hadn’t really read or heard anything about him up until this week. Scout and Rivals have been known to make some mistakes too. Should be interesting to see how many kids get added to the class that we haven’t read anything about on the Internet. Only 4 more days until we find out.
