Rashad Williams, listed at 6-6 and 270 pounds, has given the UND Football program a verbal commitment. Rivals.com and Illinois recruiting guru “Edgy Tim” O’Halloran ranked Williams as a Top 20 offensive tackle prospect for the Class of 2013 in the state of Illinois. Williams was shown interest by a handful of MAC and Big 10 schools during his junior and senior seasons, but offers never materialized. Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois were a few of the schools who showed interest.
With his size, Williams seems like a natural fit to play tackle on the edge. He also plays on a pretty good basketball team at Proviso East High School so he seemingly has the feet to be able to block pass rushing defensive ends and outside linebackers. His natural ability to bend at the hips and knees shows he has the potential to be a good player long-term.
Williams could be described as another ‘fall-through-cracks’ prospect that has the measurables to play at the FBS level. However, he is probably considered a project at this point and will need to get stronger and develop his technique – like all other young FCS offensive lineman.
Academics may have played a big role in his recruitment to UND. As stated in an article last year, he was pretty certain at that time that he wanted to go to a university that had a Physical Therapy program. Fortunately, UND fit the bill.
Williams is the 4th offensive lineman, the 7th from the state of Illinois and the 19th commitment overall for the 2013 class. As far as we know.
