Best Schedule in FCS Football

Now that we are under 20 days away from the start of fall camp, we thought we would take a look at the Top 25 Preseason FCS Polls that have come out and evaluate the 2013 UND schedule based on these rankings.  What we found was pretty impressive.

  1. The UND home schedule consists of 7 home games – very good.
  2. Of those seven home games, there are four teams in the Top 10 of the preseason polls (listed below) – South Dakota State, Montana, Montana State, and Eastern Washington.  Three of those four were playoff teams in 2012.
  3. UND opens the season with Pioneer League member Valparaiso.  That will be as close as it gets to a sure win on this schedule.  They are picked ninth in the PL Preseason rankings.
  4. Sacramento State, UND’s last home game of the season, is ranked #24 in their poll. That gives UND FIVE Top 25 teams on their home schedule.  Five out of seven ain’t bad.
  5. When you factor in the road game vs. Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, UND actually plays Six Top 25 teams this upcoming year.  Their freshman QB’s better grow up in a hurry.
  6. Obviously, UND is not ranked in the Top 25 of any of the polls.  However, this tough of a schedule should provide the ability to easily jump up there should they win a few of those early games at home.

If there was ever a year for the casual UND fan to come and support the team, this is it.  We scoured other teams schedules and didn’t find anything close to what UND has on their schedule.  Major kudos to UND AD Brian Faison for putting together the non-conference portion of this schedule by locking up the likes of South Dakota State and Montana (back end of home and home from 2010).

UND home opponents are bolded.  Ranked Big Sky teams are also included.

It’s Northern Iowa, not Northern Colorado, that Athlon has #14.

Great schedule. I am looking forward to this season more than any other that I can recall! Go Sioux!!

When do you plan to have your next “Q&A” session? I suppose not until after the start of fall camp?

I’m curious about: the status of injuries, who did and didn’t stay in GF over the summer, if we know of any players who won’t be back this fall, etc.

Another reason this is a great schedule is having four home games by September 28th … should be good for student attendance / school spirit.
