Verbal Commit – Hudson Walton

School:  Cedarburg High School – Cedarburg, WI (Coach Brian Leair)

Vitals:  Outside Linebacker (#43).  6’1″ – 200.

Offers:  D2 offers.  Various interest from FCS schools.

Walton is probably the most celebrated running back that UND has ever signed, even though he is more than likely going to be a linebacker in college.  Walton rushed for 1,964 yards and 29 TD’s in his senior season for the Bulldogs, falling just short of an unbelievable 5,000 yards in his career.  Walton was the hammer in the Bulldogs double-wing/Wing-T offense and we are not ruling out a move to fullback in the future.  With some size he could be a very effective fullback.  He showed the physicality and athleticism to be able to catch an occasional pass in the flat, besides the usual blocking duties.

Walton shows decent speed on film but his biggest attribute is toughness.  He seems like a real “lunch-pail” type of kid who is going to give it everything he has, every play, and not expect anything to be given to him.  Walton also has good feet, agility, and vision, which will serve him well at either OLB or FB.  It will be interesting to see how he transitions to the outside linebacker position in college, given he is known by most as a big-time all-state running back.

Walton was named Wisconsin All-State First-Team as a running back by multiple publications.  He was also honorable mention as a linebacker and was the WSN Preseason #22 ranked player in WI.

What class in wisconsin did he play in ? He looks like a monster on the field compared to the people trying to tackle him!

Wouldn’t mind seeing him on either side of the ball, but I’d much rather see him in the backfield running over people, chewing up clock, and sustaining drives. This kid could be a real freight train by the time he’s a sophomore or junior

    1. Good point. An offense can always use a hammer for special situations in games, like you mentioned. Kids are slotted based on need initially. He could very easily end up back on offense.

    2. My personal opinion is that he would be an exceptional fullback type in a 2-back offensive set for Coach Rudolph. I don’t think he will play tailback, but I could be wrong. I see him starting on defense with a possible change to FB after a year or 2, depending on his development.

Don’t see running back either, but he would be a good fullback or linebacker in my opinion.

    Go Sioux!

Don’t know if he still has any highlight videos online anywhere but this guy is Andrew Grothman. Would love him at fullback if Rudolph plans on utilizing one.

Check him out on You Tube “Hudson Walton Senior Year”. Hard runner. Tough, tough kid. Started as a freshman, when his team was State Runner-up, and never missed a start in four years of varsity! His team in 2014 lost to three teams who had a combined record of 39-2, including the state champ who knocked him out of the playoffs.
