Verbal Commit – Cedric Simmons

Name:  CEDRIC SIMMONS

School: Mesa Community College – Mesa, AZ (Coach Ryan Felker)

Vitals:  RB (#28).  6’1″ – 215.

Offers:  Georgia State

Simmons comes to UND from Mesa Community College in Arizona.  He originally signed with San Jose State back in 2011 but ended up at Mesa to start the 2013 season.  We believe he will be a junior sophomore for UND.

Simmons was part of a crowded backfield at Mesa, one that featured four running backs with over 20 carries.  He shows very good straight-line speed on film and will be a definite home run threat for UND.  Simmons has the size to be an every-down back, pick up blitzes, etc.  He caught multiple screen passes as a running back, giving UND a threat with that game as well.

In 2013, Simmons rushed the ball 67 times for 297 yards and 2 TD’s.  He also added 14 receptions for 189 yards and 2 TD’s, showing his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.

We like this signing based on the uncertainty in the UND backfield.  They do not have any proven entities coming back but do have some depth in Schaugabay, Sparks, Garman, and Varner, and Sharp.  We expect Simmons will be right in the mix with all of these guys and give UND a true competition at RB.

Lots of tred left on those tires. Finally a back over 200lbs that can move.

Cedric will have 3 years to play for UND. I am liking what I am seeing from the school, fans and the support early on in this process..

Welcome Sioux Nation to San Jose California. We are hoping for a great, exciting football game. Your team, like ours is going through somewhat of a transitional period. We are having to replace our record setting QB David Fales and some talented WR’s and defensive standouts. We have an exciting talent pool of young players with a sprinkling of seasoned veterans who have jelled nicely. Look for a tough in the trenches game with an occasional big play.
While in San Jose, be sure to visit Original Joe’s restaurant, corner of 1st and San Carlos, a Bay Area favorite. Also take a quick drive by the new Levi’s Stadium, just a few miles north in Santa Clara. San Jose is the largest city in Northern California and the main driving force behind the Silicon Valley high tech boom. Within just a few miles of campus you’ll find the corporate headquarters of Adobe, Cisco, Intel, HP, Apple, Facebook, Yahoo, Google. Some tourists might want to visit the Napa Valley wine country up north, the Livermore Valley wineries to the north east, the Santa Cruz beaches to the south and perhaps the 2nd largest city, San Francisco, up north.
Whatever you decide to do, welcome and enjoy your California experience.
    And… Go Spartans!
